I am qualified to master's degree level in counselling and psychotherapy, having worked as a counsellor with both Petersfield Counselling Service and also the Southern Addictions Advisory Service (SADAS). I have experience of working with a wide range of client issues, especially anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, and abuse, for example, and I also have additional specialist training and expertise in working with addiction and substance and alcohol dependence.
In my work with both of these agencies, and in my own private practice, I work with people referred by their GP or who refer themselves and I am experienced in delivering both shorter term, time-limited counselling as well as longer term, multi-year work.
I don't believe there is a one shoe fits all and my integrative training differentiates me from other therapists only trained in one theoretical model. My training enables me to draw upon the key aspects of several of the main therapeutic approaches. For example, my psychodynamic learning helps me work with you on difficult early experiences and relationships, which may continue to impact on your life today, whilst my CBT knowledge is particularly helpful when working with anxiety and phobias. My broader theoretical understanding and experience enables me to tailor our work together so that it most appropriately meets your individual needs.
I have a separate section on this website - My Integrative Approach - which offers a more detailed discussion of my theoretical approach and how emotional difficulties, especially relationship ones, may develop and which may be useful in helping you decide whether you think I may be able to help you.
